Low-Voltage Installation Contractor SOP Guide
Field installation standards for luxury properties ($1.2M+). Zero drywall dust, pristine wire dressing,
exact 58" console centerlines, and rigorous electrical safety protocols.
You are entering multi-million-dollar homes. A single scratch on a mahogany floor or drywall dust on velvet upholstery will result in an insurance claim.
Complete this mandatory 4-point entry procedure before pulling any tools from your van:
1. Neoprene Boot Covers (Non-Negotiable)
Put on clean, heavy-duty rubberized boot covers before stepping past the front entry mat. Never walk in work boots.
2. Canvas Drop Cloths Under Every Work Area
Place a heavy canvas drop cloth beneath every switch box or console drywall cut.
3. HEPA Vacuum Active During Drywall Cuts
Hold a running HEPA shop-vac nozzle directly beneath the drywall jab saw to capture 100% of gypsum dust.
4. No Tools on Furniture or Counters
Never place drills, tool belts, or wire strippers on kitchen islands, mantels, or furniture. Use padded tool mats on the floor.
Architectural Mounting Specifications:
- Mounting Height: Exactly 58 Inches (147 cm) from finished floor to the vertical center of the console screen.
- Low-Voltage Ring: Use a single-gang open-back low-voltage mounting bracket (Carlon orange ring).
- Power & Data: Powered via a single PoE (Power-over-Ethernet 802.3af) Cat6 cable terminated with standard T-568B RJ45.
- Zero 110V High Voltage: No Romex or 110V electrical box is allowed inside the console cavity.
Fish the Cat6 cable through the wall from the central IT gateway rack. Plug into the rear PoE RJ45 port of the console.
Gently push the console flush into the drywall bracket until the magnetic locking clips engage. Verify the screen powers on and loads the Everyday Estate dashboard.
CRITICAL SAFETY RULE: Breaker Lockout
Always locate the main electrical panel and turn off the corresponding circuit breaker. Test with a certified non-contact voltage tester before touching any copper.
- Line (Hot) vs. Load: Identify the incoming 120V Line wire (black) from the breaker and the Load wire going to the light fixture.
- Neutral Pigtail: Everyday Estate dimmers require a solid neutral connection. Connect the dimmer’s neutral wire to the bundle of white neutral wires in the back of the box with an appropriately sized wire nut.
- Grounding: Fasten the green grounding lead to the bare copper equipment ground.
- Screwless Wall Plates: Always finish with architectural screwless snap-on faceplates for a seamless luxury aesthetic.
